I'm 37 and never received any guidance about how to find a life partner, nor did I seek any out because I honestly never thought about it much, it seemed like one of those things that's just supposed to "happen". I've dated a couple amazing women over the years for short-term (~6 months) but was afraid of commitment and none of them felt "right" so I either broke up with them or (more recently) I limited my emotional engagement so they broke up with me. For a long time I was looking for a woman that was like me, which I now realize was unrealistic and not a good idea. Now I am struggling. My situation is pretty bespoke but some of what you said was relevant and the entire thing was pretty interesting -- very different perspective compared to dating advice I've consumed elsewhere like Manson's "models" which isn't really oriented towards finding a loving long-term partner that will work well for settling into a long-term partnership with. Anyway sorry for the long rant but hey engagement is engagement eh? lol
