What’s the obvious, humbling thing right in front of your face?

Often, this is exactly what we wish *wasn’t* true

What’s the simple and obvious thing, that you know you need to take action on, that you kind of wish wasn’t true, because it requires a lot uncomfortable letting go, trust, and surrender…?

The first time I did psychedelics, the most confronting thing about the experience were all the obvious, simple, straight-forward truths and insights that were right under my nose that for some reason I needed to enter an altered state of consciousness to see. If you’ve ever done psychedelics, you probably know that feeling… of oh, obviously… why didn’t I see that before?

The reason, usually, is because your ego didn’t want you to see what you can finally see clearly in that altered, somewhat egoless state.

We like to CONTROL what we see (and what others see)

We carefully construct our identities so that we attach to and associate with only the things that we wish to be associated with. We want to control others’ perceptions of us. We want to be exactly who we think we should be (and we don’t want to be anything like the people who bother us most…). We want to be seen for our most flattering angles—physically and metaphysically.

But sometimes, reality, the truth, or our actual path is not so neat and tidy. Sometimes, there is something deep and true inside of us that we don’t want to admit to ourselves, because it would shatter exactly this neat and tidy identity we’ve constructed. Or, sometimes it’s even simpler... sometimes, we don’t want to take action on the obvious, true, simple thing right in front of us, because we are actually afraid what would happen if we really got the things we truly want.

How to spot the simple, obvious thing in your own life (without mind-altering substances)
