I have been realizing just this, I need to feel & stop intellectualizing all the time. My mentor said it to me best when she was like: remove yourself from yourself and just think of a little girl who didn’t get her needs met, don’t you feel empathy for her, that’s you, stop rationalizing and feel the sadness.

Great piece Isabel. So much mental suffering is just unfelt feelings

This reminds me of a thought I often have - labels both define and constrain us.

The far-reaching extent of this is often under-appreciated, indeed: “adults are just children that have aged. We don’t become immune to the emotions we felt as children once we reach adulthood, we just become more competent at dealing with them—which is great! Labelling and understanding our emotions is important, but pretending that we can get so good at dealing with them as to not feel them at all is foolish.”
